Advanced Jewelry Fabrication/Stone Setting

This class is for students who have completed a Level I course or have demonstrated proficiency in sawing, drilling, filing, forging texture, small shapes, bezels and ring bands, soldering, setting a flat-back stone, and finishing their basic unique pieces.  In these 2-to-4-week courses, you will move beyond the basic bezel-set stone or flat plain to explore a variety of stone settings (tube, flush, bead, prong, and claw-settings, etc.), while also incorporating more dimension into your design flow.  Students will be encouraged to explore the studio’s polishing and texturizing equipment to further their development.  Depending upon everyone’s unique design needs, you may learn simple hinged, soldered, wire-wrapping or riveted options to co-join your segments.  The goal of this class is to explore a new setting technique in two of the 3-hour segments.  Students will  incorporate these newly acquired techniques working with metal and stone into one or two cohesive piece (pendant, ring, pin, or earrings).  Gemstones, metal (copper, brass, fine/sterling silver), and all tools/equipment are included in the tuition. Above and beyond are available for extra purchase.  Class size is limited to 4. Students must be at least 14 years of age.   For those who would like to work in gold, please specify so options for purchasing gold are met prior to course start (the price of all precious metals fluctuates daily).  Tuition: $175/2-week session, or $300/4-week session

Bangle Bracelet Experience

The simplicity of circular bangles is a great way to discover the basic techniques of metalsmithing. In just 3 hours, you’ll learn how to hammer texture, shape metal wire into the bangle form, solder it all together, clean up and finish your unique bracelets!

Precious Metal Clay Experience

Learn how to transform clay into metal! In this class, you will get to roll, texture, dry and fire silver precious metal clay (PMC). We will be making small designs, like earrings or pendants, and using the torch to fire them during class. You will get to walk away with your very own one of a kind jewelry piece ready to wear or use as elements in a larger jewelry piece!

What is this magical material? Precious Metal Clay is made up of fine metal particles that are mixed with a water-soluble, non-toxic organic binder that burns off during firing. Firing can be done in a kiln or with a torch, and in this class, we will be introducing students to smaller forms that can be fired using a torch.

No experience necessary.  Tuition: $200

Torch-Fired Enameling Experience

Learn how to use a torch to add colored glass to metal! This class will give you an introduction to the exciting world of enameling. While working on copper blanks, you will learn how to apply enamel and fuse it with a torch. We will cover how to prepare the metal, apply enamel, and experiment with firing time to impact surface patterns. This technique is the easiest, fastest and most affordable way to enamel on metal without a kiln!  Tuition: $200

Spinner Rings Experience

Spinner rings are fun to make and even more fun to wear! Take your metalsmithing skills to the next level as you learn how to measure, size, shape, and solder rings out of sheet and wire. You will also learn the basics of texturing, polishing, and finishing. Although some soldering experience would be helpful in this class, it is not necessary - we will teach you everything you need to know.
